About

Career and market intelligence for cybersecurity leaders

Cyber Leadership Index analyzes the security leadership market so you can tell, quickly, which opportunities are actually worth pursuing.

Cyber Leadership Index is not a job board. Every leadership role we publish is analyzed for what it actually is: how senior the mandate really is, what it pays, who it reports to, how much organizational influence it carries, and whether it advances the career of the person considering it.

Who it is for

  • Directors and Senior Directors of Security
  • VPs and Heads of Security
  • Deputy CISOs and divisional security leaders
  • CISOs
  • Security executives planning a deliberate next move

What makes it different

Employer titles are unreliable. A Director title at one company carries a wider mandate than a VP title at another. For each role, CLI assesses:

  • True seniority — a CLI Career Level based on scope rather than the posted title
  • Role scope, reporting level and executive exposure
  • Compensation, disclosed or evidence-based estimate
  • Organizational influence and board visibility
  • Opportunity quality, scored independently of any candidate
  • Executive Fit against your own background
  • Career advancement — what the role does to your trajectory
  • The most likely path into the company
  • The security context of the employer itself

Data philosophy

  • Disclosed information is labelled as disclosed.
  • Inferred information is labelled as inferred, with the evidence behind it.
  • Confidence is shown wherever a figure depends on inference.
  • Unknown information stays unknown. Missing data lowers confidence; it never triggers an invented answer.

The full scoring detail behind each model — weights, inputs and assumptions — is published on the Methodology page.

Who builds it

Built by Walker Lawrence, a cybersecurity advisor helping organizations develop effective security leadership and programs.

What we will not do

  • We do not inflate role counts with junior or non-security postings.
  • We do not republish roles listed by aggregators or third-party recruiters.
  • We do not present an estimate as if it were a disclosed salary.
  • We do not scrape private profiles, gated pages, or anything behind a login.
  • We do not sell candidate data, and we do not share your profile with employers.
  • We do not use protected characteristics, or proxies for them, in fit scoring.
